Heavy Seas Small Craft Warning Uber Pils
90 Blade Chainsaw
Small Craft Warning is a self proclaimed Uber Pils style bock lager from the Heavy Seas line of the Clipper City Brewing Company, LP of Baltimore, Maryland. It won the Silver Medal of the World Beer Championship in 2007. Small Craft Warning is a highly complex and flavorful beer brewed with Amarillo, Hersbrucker, Saaz and Tettnang Hops and Carapils and German Malts for a total of 7% ABV.
This is my second Heavy Seas brew after the very successful session with Peg Leg. And while the cartooned theme of Pirates in some sort of despair is interesting, these beers display a much deeper personality beyond their conceptualized image, though I’m not holding that against them.
During the second brew of the session, I was called into duty by my master. Upon quickly claiming her objective, I spent some time savoring the romance of heat and pleasures of the flesh. The event left me with feelings of establishment and satisfaction. She surrendered into the comfort of rest, and I continued my session under the influence of the moon.
The crisp, cleansed air of a post-rain mountain landscape is a deeply enriching experience at 3:00 a.m. The bright lunar illumination excited the howls and calls in the creatures of the night, and along with the smooth sway of the wind, created an ambient harmony that cleansed my spirit and uplifted my soul over the impending dawn.
Onto The Method
9.0/10 – The Classic
2.0 – Appearance – Golden, rich and substantial while fully transparent. Medium to full carbonation that leads the orchestration of a full tanned head with meaningful lacing throughout.
1.0 – Aroma – Very mild malt and bread aromas that hide the alcohol well upon first serve, though powerful alcoholic vapors rise towards the middle of the drink.
2.0 – Taste – A full and pleasant malt character balanced by a high quality hop construction that is in itself significantly bitter.
2.0 – Palate – A velvety smooth medium body with calming carbonation and a fully easy drink to devour.
2.0 – Overall – It’s a well constructed, high quality copulation of fine ingredients and high alcoholic manifestation.
9.0/10 Blades – The Hammer – the booze – The heavy tool is significant at 7% ABV and does quite well with the ingredients of the body. It doesn’t overpower the flavor and is likewise undisturbed by its construction.
8.0/10 Blades – The Knife –digestibility – The knife is subtle and provides well paced stabs of meaning and elder experience.
10/10 Blades – The Spider – the lift –These spiders are well orchestrated creatures of euphoria. They come on quietly with the disposition of a ninja poet reciting perfection throughout the night, and last well beyond the physical liquid entity of the beer.
9.0/10 Blades – The Motor –can you handle it? – In spite of the alcoholic power of the beer, control and enjoyment ride the theme of the evening.
45.0/50 Blades – The Buzz – Heavy Seas Small Craft Warning is a deeply rich and complex beer that is high in quality and flavor, and provides a substantial alcoholic base. The well balanced malt and bitter characteristics provide an enjoyable drink, while the buzz displays quality euphoria and overall satisfaction. The hammer and knife are strong, but the spiders and the motor work well to give this buzz a lasting euphoric perpetuity. The rush comes on slow and doesn’t overpower the soul, making it easy to not only control, but genuinely enjoy.
