Hop City Barking Squirrel Lager

Okay okay another amber based beer, sorry I just can’t help it. Today’s trip to Joe Canal’s had me venturing, and the label Hop City Barking Squirrel Lager was funny enough so I read the label its a 5% brew 24 ibu and a blend of Hallertau, Mittelfrueh and Saaz hops.

I like the hop profile to this brew mixed with the sweet amber flavor , and 7.99 a sixer that’s a price that can’t be bat. This reminds me of another good pa lager, Yueunling but with a litter more flavor and attitude.BestBeerBuzz edit: Thanks again for your review Craig! Nothing to be sorry about.

Sometimes I think I tend to review too many India Pale Ales, but we gravitate towards what we enjoy most, and it’s all about enjoying life.

Hop City Barking Squirrel Lager comes to us from our Canadian neighbors in Ontario. The name comes from letting their brew masters name their beer after realizing how good it was. Though they tried to claim it was so smooth and crisp it was as if an angel was dancing on your tongue, they admitted that it was probably more like a squirrel.

Hop City Barking Squirrel Lager is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2010 Ontario Brewing Awards People’s Choice Award and Silver Medal. It also wona Silver Medal at the Canadian Brewing Awards in 2010.

As you mentioned, it is an Amber lager with a rich burnt orange color and subtle noble hop aroma, with 24 ibu’s from its blend of Hallertau, Mittelfrueh and Saaz hops. Its slight hop bitterness balances a medium rich body for a smooth and drinkable brew with a hint of hop in the aftertaste.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this great Amber, and always feel free to submit as many Amber selections as you’d like, they’re always welcome!
