Birra Moretti La Rossa Doppio Malto
50 Blade Chainsaw
Birra Moretti La Rossa is an Italian Double Bock beer made with high quality Roasted Malted Barley and Spalt Select Hops for and alcohol content of 7.2% ABV, 26 IBUs,an Original Gravity of 17.5% and a whopping 241 Calories!.
Birra Moretti is an Italian brewery started by Luigi Moretti in 1859. It was originally in Udine, Italy until 1996 when Heineken International acquired the brand. The Birra Moretti brands are now brewed a few miles northeast of Milan in Bergamo, Italy.
While the German Monks are associated with the style, Doppelbocks were originally created by the religious order of the Italian Monks of St. Francis of Paula in the Bavarian Alps. Outside of Germany, La Rossa takes on a more relaxed and social persona as the website itself claims ownership to La Dolce Vita!
Onto The Method
6.0/10 Blades – The Classic
1.5 – Appearance – The body of this double bock is a deep, red bronze with swirling carbonation that creates a full and warming tanned head.
1.5 – Aroma – Rich malt base well blended with an alcohol heat and roasted desire.
1.0 – Taste – Thick and welcoming malt flavors with mild chocolate spicing and light bitter characteristics that come crashing in on a rough wall created by too much sweetness.
1.0 – Palate – The full medium body is nice to drink but the sweetness builds over the palate heavily at the end of each serve.
1.0 – Overall – A nicely delicious beer with great weight, aromas and flavors unfavorably matched with a syrup sweetness that builds on the tongue after each serve in need of rescue.
7.0/10 Blades – The Hammer – the booze – The 7.2% ABV maintains itsposition as a strong hammer which is balanced by an equally powerful body and construction.
6.0/10 Blades- The Knife –digestibility –Surprisingly, the thickness of the body is cut with a sharp system, delivering its content and potential throughout the bloodstream and soul.
5.0/10 Blades – The Spider – the lift –The lift is weak and gets lost in the oversweetness of thebalance. The light lift it provides takes a long time to come on but provides a gentle, talkative run.
6.0/10 Blades – The Motor –can you handle it? – This motor is gentle and easy to ride, though it needs to make a few pit stops in between serves to cleanse the palate.
20.0/50 Blades – the buzz – Moretti La Rossa is a fine, flavorful example of the double bock style that originates from Italy. It fares well against its German counterparts and may even offer a welcoming lighter body. The fragrances and flavors are pleasurable and I appreciate the quality in its construction. It scores poorly as a buzz because its full lift is mild and doesn’t get much higher, and the palate continually needed to be cleansed with some citrus pairing or distilled water. But Moretti La Rossa is nonetheless a quality and flavorful beer.
